When layers are worn right, it creates a pulled together outfit that creates both shape and style. Layering myth alert – some say it makes you look more bulky. False, friends. Layers done right pass off a posh silhouette. Employ some method to your madness with some easy layering guidelines to avoid the frumpy feeling.
Tips To Wearing Layers
- Keep your first layer fitted and lightweight. Cleavitz half top's for zero bulk.
- Your next layer should stay lightweight too, a button up or knit top.
- Add structure with a blazer or jacket. American made jackets.
- Lastly dress them up with add on accessories. USA Love List Eco Jewelery Source Guide.
Accessorizing Tips
- Belts accentuate the smallest part of your waist to create the hour glass silhouette
- Scarves add texture, color, and dimension.
- Necklaces select a long piece to work into the outfit.
Don't be afraid to mix it all together, layering can create several outfits just by swapping a few pieces.
Layering remixed:
Belt your scarf in with your other layers and add a long necklace to complete it.
Use different textures – lace, shimmer, and wool for example.
Add a pattern like floral or chevron.
These tips are for the cozy winter months – the more layers, the merrier.

love your ideas on layering, and still getting outside to get some fresh air.
These are nice tips. I’ve been doing the layering thing going out daily in the cold for walks, etc. I noticed that some things are bulky but add no warmth, so far the best is anything real wool. I haven’t tried silk, but I have read it helps retain warmth better than cotton for those first layers.
Love all of your laying ideas…Greatly need them living in Minnesota!! Thanks!
I know all about llayers I live in the Midwest where for example today it is snaowy and we have a windchill of -30 to – 45 happening. Layers is how you survive. I am not so much for making things look cute as staying warm. I can and have worn 4 shirts and a coat. If I look fat so be it- I am warm 🙂
It is starting to get much colder here and time to start layering up! These are great tips for sure. I never thought about belting my scarf like that and I’m going to try it! Thanks.
Love your layer ideas, Angie! It’s a must for the winter time too.
The hardest part for any woman is staying warm without looking like the marshmallow man doing it. I regularly see women without jackets in the middle of winter and I suspect it is because they think a jacket ruins their “style”.

When I was in fifth grade we learned that it’s not how thick the layers are (bulky sweaters, etc.), but the warm air between them. More layers = warmer person. For some reason, that really stuck with me! LOL
