We LOVE decorating pumpkins for Halloween at the Hanson household! This year, the kiddos were excited to find some little pumpkins at a local farm stand that were just asking to be painted. And I was excited to find paint at the local craft store that is not only made in the USA, but is also non-toxic.
Apple Barrel acrylic craft paint, which is both made in the USA and non-toxic, is the perfect paint to use when pumpkin painting with kids.
Apple Barrel acrylic paint works well on practically every surface- even pumpkins! It's water base formula is safe and non-toxic for kids to use. And it even comes in glow in the dark colors- perfect for creating spooky Halloween pumpkins!
When it was time to begin our pumpkin painting festivities, I wiped down the pumpkins with a damp cloth to remove any dust and dirt, and made sure they were dry before I handed them over to the kiddos. A clean and dry pumpkin is easier for kids to paint. Nothing sticks to the brush, and the paint applies better.
I then set up our painting area.
And the kiddos began painting.
Apple Barrel water based paints are easy to clean up, which is another reason why they are so perfect for crafting with kids!
Paint that still managed to get on the kitchen table, wiped right off with a damp cloth. The paint practically rinsed right off of the silicone muffin pan. With a little soap and water, paint was easily removed from Sophie's hands…and her face…. and her hair…and from her knee….I wonder if it will come off of her clothes just as easily??!!
I bought my made in USA Apple Barrel acrylic paint from my local Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts and Walmart stores.
I love this. My son drew with a marker on his pumpkin. After it was carved he wanted to do more so he decorated the back of the pumpkin iwth the marker.
Love painted pumpkins. So much safer than carving with the little ones — plus they’re cute!
