What makes a vehicle the most American-made?
The ‘Made in America’ Automotive Index is produced by American University’s Kogod School of Business, is authored by Frank DuBois, a global supply chain management expert and professor at American University. DuBois developed the list based on data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, along with the location of the company headquarters, design, research and development, and where are recorded. More comprehensive than other studies of its kind, the Kogod index ranks models based on seven weighted data points including several factors unaddressed by the American Automotive Labeling Act, the basis for “made in America” automotive studies.
Buick Enclave 2015 Reviewed
The Enclave, Buick's best selling vehicle, is made in Lansing, Michigan. It is the larger of two SUV models offered by Buick. I got a chance to test-drive it recnently and I just loved how “heavy” the vehicle feels. While I might not be old enough to know what it was like to drive a vehicle made of steel, I can tell when a car feels well made and feels safe and sturdy as a result.
I love that the Enclave as all the bells and whistles of what any new car would offer, and makes the ease of using these features, well, easy. They've done a nice job of being as technically advanced and sleek as other brands, without alienating their previous customer base. What do I mean?
- You still need a physical key to open the door, and start the engine. I appreciate this feature because it's natural. While keyless start is easy, I like the normality associated with a physical key. {NOTE: You can select the Remote Keyless Entry when you build your own model.}
- The shift gear is located in the middle console. I like this option better than using a knob to shift gears.
- The clock is mechanical, not digital. Classic.
Other features I loved:
- There's plenty of seating. Three rows with up to eight seats, depending on the style of seating you select. I love the option of having lots of seats without the vehicle being a mini-van. The Buick Enclave still maintains luxury status while offering space.
- There's an abundance of natural light because there are two moon roofs. Score!
- Hauling things hasn't been easier. The seats are easy to put down, and you can collapse both back rows of seats to move a lot. I easily fit three pieces of furniture to haul after putting down both back rows of seats.
Disclosure: USA Love List was loaned the Buick Enclave to experience it first hand, unconditionally for review purposes. Our opinions are always our own, and we aim to write fair and balanced reviews to promote only the very best of American-made products and experiences.
