Instead of choosing an inferior smoker that rusts or burns through its thin steel, consider one of the best pellet smokers made in the USA.
These pellet smokers are definitely NOT your typical grills you’ll find at your local big box store where they’re mass-produced with inferior materials. On the contrary, these high quality pellet grills will last forever when taken care of.
Best American Made Pellet Smokers and Grills
Less than a dozen years ago, if you wanted to smoke meats in your backyard, you would have to purchase a smoker that performed only that single function. If you also wanted to grill, you would need to do so on charcoal grills or gas grills.
Nowadays, you can choose a pellet smoker, also known as a pellet grill, that both grills and smokes meat and other foods. You need only one outdoor appliance to perform both functions.
So for the purposes of this article, I’m using the terms “pellet grill” and “pellet smoker” interchangeably, as the companies who make them in the USA provide both functions.
You’ll find a number of pellet grill brands that are made in the United States of America. If you’re a first-time buyer, you’ll be surprised by their ease of use. You might also be sadly shocked at the once-upon-a-time American manufacturers of pellet smokers and grills who no longer make their products stateside. What once was an American brand just might no longer be. Keep reading to learn more.

What is a Pellet Smoker?
A pellet smoker, or pellet grill, combines grilling and smoking capabilities within a single outdoor unit. Made from strong stainless steel, it is fueled with hardwood sawdust that’s been compressed into wood pellets. These pellets are used in place of charcoal or propane.
Pour the pellets into a hopper. An electricity-fueled auger motor feeds the pellets from the hopper into a fire box and eventually into the cooking chamber. Then, with the combination of heat, air, and movement, the pellets burn at the temperature you set and monitor through the smoker’s digital controller.
Today’s wood pellet grills have the technological capability of being regulated through its Wi-Fi controllers. Using Wi-Fi connectivity, you can pair your pellet grill to phones or other mobile devices that allow for temperature control and other monitoring. You can also monitor the heat probes through your device.

What To Look for in A Pellet Grill
If you’re looking to buy a new grill, note there are different types of grills, so be sure you’re reviewing a wood pellet grill or wood pellet smoker (they’re pretty much one and the same these days). Several makers create products for commercial use, so you’ll want to consider the size you want or need. Smaller pellet smokers obviously come at a lower price point.
The build quality should reflect zero gaps between the grill and lid. Joints should be secure with strong welds and hardware. Seams shouldn’t have any holes or gaps for heat to escape.
The metal should come from high carbon fiber steel and high-gauge stainless steel, anywhere from 10 to 16-gauge steel. The fire pot and diffuser plate in particular should be made from stainless steel rather than an inferior metal.
The design should allow for good airflow, even temperature, and heat retention.
Heat control should be simple through the controller.
The bigger the temperature range, the more you can do on a pellet grill. Searing takes place at around 500-550 degrees, 700 degrees provides an opportunity for fire-baked pizza, and 225-250 degrees allow for perfect meat smoking conditions.
The controller needs to keep a consistent, accurate temperature inside your pellet smoker while running the fan, auger, and other components.
The warranty should cover the barrel and electrical components, at the very least.

Why Buy A Pellet Grill Made in the USA
While mainstream markets outsource their production to other countries in order to increase profit margins, American companies invest in their communities by providing work to American workers. They cycle their profit back into the local and American economy. These same companies donate to local and national charities to help those in need.
When you break down the production components, you have parts makers, steel workers, welders, powder coaters, machinists, finishers, designers, engineers, and other workers who reflect a family business or small business made up of real people. They love what they do while trying to make a livable wage, and together, they make an end product that’s unsurpassed in any other country. Finally, the companies that make pellet grills in the USA provide awesome customer service. As a matter of fact, each one highlights its customer service as one of its top-rung features.
That’s a quality that’s necessary for today’s global market when you need help with an issue.
Pellet Smokers No Longer American Made
Sadly, some popular brands in the pellet grill industry no longer make their smokers/grills in the USA. These well-known brands include:
- Traeger Grills
- Pit Boss Grills
- Grilla Grills
- Green Mountain Grills
- Camp Chef Grills
- Z Grills
- Memphis Grills
- Louisiana Grills.
Furthermore, someone from Cookshack pg (pellet grills), located in Ponca City, Oklahoma, told me the company plans on shifting its production overseas, as they can no longer make affordable products due to manufacturing costs. Apparently, this shift includes its best-selling Fast Eddy’s pellet grill made by Cookshack.
Check out our list below to see what brands truly are American-made products and offer the best heavy duty pellet grills on the market today.

Lone Star Grillz
If you’re familiar with the older smoker versions from Lone Star Grillz, throw those ideas away. Welcome to the all-new, completely re-designed smoker grills with better…well, everything! Chris Goodlander confirms the Texas company either makes the parts that go into their pellet grills in its fully tooled fabrication shop, or they source the components from US manufacturers. Either way, these wood pellet smokers are entirely made in the USA.
Each grill comes with a griddle plate for easy cooking on the side of the grill. Also, the main chamber holds several gallons of water that turns to steam and keeps your meat moist and tender while cooking. Just about the only thing that varies in these grills is the size, so you’re getting the same quality in each grill.
Shown is the 20” x 36” pellet grill that can cook four briskets or eight pork butts at one time, according to the website.
MAK Grills
MAK Grills, made in Oregon, is the first and only pellet grill manufacturer to be named in the Made in the USA Hall of Fame. Its website specifically mentions the auger, auger motor, thermocouple, meat probes, and controllers that are made in the Dallas, Oregon surrounding area to MAK Grills’ specifications. In all, high-quality materials make up the MAK grills, not to mention the company is both family-owned and veteran-owned.
Pictured is the Two-Star General that comes in either a partial, 304 stainless steel or all stainless steel model. With these models, you can cold smoke foods like nuts or cheese. The Two-Star General has a smoking temperature range from 170-190 range but can go as high as 600 degrees for grilling. It has a 20-pound hopper capacity, and it has a “flamezone” for direct grilling. The pellet grill igniter holds a lifetime warranty.
Myron Mixon Smokers
It just makes sense that Georgia-based Myron Mixon would have his own smokers. Mixon, a five-time world champion, 11-time national champion in bbq competitions, author, and television executive producer on the topic of smoking and barbecuing meats, sells gravity smokers, H2O smokers, and commercial smokers, along with his BARQ pellet smokers through Myron Mixon Smokers. I spoke at length with Mixon’s son David, President of Myron Mixon Smokers and Mixon Products, who confirms that nearly every part of its pellet smokers is made in the USA. Fun fact: Mixon has joined efforts with Smokin’ Brothers to make its smokers in Missouri.
You’ll cut down on the number of pellets you need to burn due to the design and double-wall stainless steel that keep the heat inside rather than allowing it to escape. The new models feature improved controller technology and Wi-Fi capabilities made specifically for these smokers. These controllers are also American-made.

Smokin' Brothers
Ryan Eftink, president of Smokin’ Brothers, is as proud of his made-in-the-USA smokers as a kid is of his first puppy. During a phone conversation, Eftink, a bbq competitor-turned-manufacturer, outlined the many features of his company’s smokers that are too lengthy for this post, but suffice it to say, these pellet grills more than get the job done. They’re manufactured in Southeast Missouri, along with the software that goes into the control panels.
One feature in particular Eftink highlights is that you can control the smoker from any device without an app. The company also chooses high-carbon fiber steel or high-gauge stainless steel. Pictured is the “36” Premier Plus Grill. This larger, single-rack grill, like the others Smokin’ Brothers makes, features a PID controller, double wall insulated fire box, and heatwave technology that forces the airflow across the grates if you want that extra kick of heat. Best of all, this company provides top-of-the-line customer service. Smokin Brothers’ manufacturing facility also makes Myron Mixon Smokers with its technological upgrades.
Twin Eagles Pellet Grills
Twin Eagles makes its pellet grills in the USA but as of 2021, the company is owned by Sweden’s Dometic. That means while American workers make the grills in California, the profit returns to Sweden. But because it’s made in the USA, it makes the list. These grills are meant to be built into your larger outdoor kitchen area. They’re made from 14-gauge stainless steel and are polished to a fine, shiny finish, making them beautiful, strong, and some of the most expensive selections on the market. You get a lifetime warranty on many of the grills' components.
Consider the Dometic Twin Eagles Pellet Grill 36G, pictured. You can choose to control it either through your mobile device, or you can use the touchscreen controls on the front of the grill. It has a pre-programmed temperature for specific food items, similar to what a microwave has. It also has not one, but two, drip trays, and three temperature probes. The hopper is located on the front. Buy on the Twin Eagles Grills website or online at BBQ Guys.
Weber
Weber has been a powerhouse name in the world of grilling since it invented the kettle grill in 1952. And while it has several pellet smokers on the market, they’re made from globally sourced components, meaning it’s not 100% American made. While I include it on the list because the company certainly provides work to its Illinois community, most of the other companies listed are truly American made. Pictured is the SmokeFire EX6 (2nd generation). It has a 200-600 degree temperature range, a porcelain-enamel finish that retains heat while helping to prevent rusting, and 1,008 square inches of cooking space. The pellet grill also offers a remote grill control and smart grilling features.
Yoder Smokers
Yoder Smokers ignited in 2008 in Yoder, Kansas with its smokers, where they’re fabricated, welded, and built. There’s so much steel in these smokers, they’re quite heavy and difficult to move. That’s a plus because these grills last forever. Yoder Smokers pellet grills are welded tightly for no leakage smoke, which means the temperature doesn't fluctuate.
Pictured is the YS640S which provides 1,070 square inches of cooking space. It has a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth controller that delivers precision results and helps you cook with ease. These American made grills offer peace of mind with a rock-solid warranty: 10 years on the cooking chamber, 3 years on the ACS controller, and 3 years on the ceramic igniter. Buy your smoker through Yoder Smokers or on the All Things Barbecue website.
